WOW I could say a lot more about this but I’ll stick with this for now so that I can actually post it. Now hold down the trigger on your ray gun My last moments will surely be a grand finale To reach the comfort and the cleansing of heaven Struggling through the gates of meditation The parade of wise men, one-two-three-four The one taught by many battles looks like an officerĪ procession of courtesans going back and forth ![]() Three thousand worlds in eternal darkness Openhearted and carefree in an anti-war nationĪ bicycle with the hi no maru fallen over on the side of the road ![]() The thousand cherry trees’ blossoms disappear into the night (This is the version I linked to above, but apparently a few other bands/performers have also covered it.) The more you know! ![]() In the process of looking into this song I learned that the name “Senbonzakura”, or “one thousand cherry trees”, is shared with a famous Kabuki play, and that this particular song was apparently originally a VOCALOID song, released in 2012, and that Wagakki Band covered it a few years later. Soooo I had not really listened to the lyrics on this & just found it catchy the first ~20 times I listened to it…turns out it is mostly not about cherry blossoms and more about…political satire involving golden-age SF-style warfare in the Edo-slash-Meiji-slash-modern era? Maybe? The rabbit hole on this one turned out to be a whole lot deeper than I was expecting! More info in the footnotes.
